You Made It… 2019 is here!

What goals are you setting for 2019?

After a crazy Christmas, it is important to take some time to reflect on the year that has been, and express gratitude towards family and friends that have made 2018 full of all that love and growth that we can take into 2019.

As we start to shift our focus towards the new year and the opportunities of 2019, many people set new years resolutions. If you are anything like me, new years resolutions are always full of good intentions of a “new me”… but by February are all but forgotten.

However, this year is going to be different… for me and you!!!  From health and fitness, to growing families, this year we are all about goal setting, and have a few tips to help get you started.

What is your motivation?

Finding the why of your goals… Why are they important to you and what is the value in achieving them? Aligning your goals to the highest priorities in your life is key. Think big picture! How are these goals going to change your life for the better? The more importance you put into the why, the more motivation you’ll have and the greater the chance of success!


Powerful goals are designed to be SMART. I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but this year we are going to focus on this from the beginning of your goal setting:

  • Specific – goals that are well defined with a clear direction.
  • Measurable – Outlining the individual steps required and crossing each one off as you complete it.
  • Achievable – realistic yet challenging goals. The perfect balance.
  • Relevant – to your life, your values and the direction you want to go.
  • Time – give yourself a realistic timeline and incremental deadline for your goals to check-in throughout the year.

Making them Real

Writing down your goals makes them tangible and real. As you write, use positive and committed statements. This means using the words “will” instead of “would like to”, and ‘doing’ instead of ‘trying’. Affirming your commitment gives the statement positive power!!!

Once they are written and real to you, place your list somewhere you will see it every day, like the kitchen or bathroom. Re-read this list every day as many times as you like, every time visualising yourself achieving them and even experiencing the emotions of gratitude that you will feel when they are achieved. This gives your mind and body a powerful push in the direction you want to go. Channeling this energy is essential in achieving your desired outcomes.


Outlining the individual steps required and crossing each one off as you complete it allows you to see the progress and continues to increase your motivation, especially in long-term goals. This keeps your head in the game and increases your chances of success of your ultimate goal.

You Got This!!!

Keep checking in with yourself. Creating these reminders along the way helps to keep yourself on track. It also allows you to review your goals… asking yourself “Have I achieved this goal? Do I have to adjust my approach? Do I still want this?”.

Your goal may stay the same long-term however, your journey there may be different to what you first thought. Continue to ensure your goals are relevant to who you are now in the present, and that you still highly value the outcomes.


For some, making big changes may initially cause some discomfort. During these times I like to pause and take a few deep breaths, remind myself of my goals and, most importantly, my reason WHY. Having this written down in a place I see everyday is key in staying focused. Here’s to an amazing and fulfilling 2019.
